Background of the Study
Job satisfaction is a critical factor in the retention and performance of healthcare workers, including nurses. A positive work environment, characterized by supportive leadership, adequate resources, and professional development opportunities, is essential for nurses to deliver quality care. In contrast, a negative work environment, with high workloads, inadequate staffing, and poor communication, can lead to job dissatisfaction, burnout, and reduced quality of care (Chinedu et al., 2024). Taraba State, with its mix of urban and rural healthcare facilities, presents unique challenges in terms of work environment for nurses. Factors such as limited access to healthcare resources, staffing shortages, and challenging working conditions are prevalent in the state.
Nurses in Taraba State are often faced with demanding workloads, inadequate facilities, and limited opportunities for professional growth, which may impact their overall job satisfaction. This study seeks to investigate the influence of the work environment on nurses' job satisfaction in Taraba State, exploring the factors that contribute to a positive or negative work experience for nurses and how these factors affect their performance and job retention.
Statement of the Problem
Job dissatisfaction among nurses can lead to high turnover rates, poor patient care, and burnout. Despite the importance of a supportive work environment in enhancing job satisfaction, there is limited research on how the work environment affects nurses' job satisfaction in Taraba State. This study seeks to address this gap by investigating how various work environment factors influence nurses' job satisfaction in the state.
